What do Our Senses Tell Us About Reality?

How Do We Understand Our Own Reality?

We perceive the world around us through our senses but how much of that reality do our five senses allow us to access?  The consensus is that humans see less than one percent of the light spectrum.  That means that perhaps there are many, many other colors and other things all around us that are invisible to us because our brain is not equipped to detect them.

Visible light is just one aspect of the electromagnetic spectrum.  How many other perceptions are beyond our human abilities?  We know, for instance that the space around us is filled with radio waves, microwaves and all manner of “waves” but we can’t perceive them without using a device that’s able to discern them.

Despite our understanding of the known world.  It remains just that – the “known” world.  It’s a fact that there are things outside of our five senses that we don’t understand because we don’t perceive them.  That doesn’t make them “woo-woo,” it just makes them outside our native abilities – that which is still unknown.

What if it Works Like This?

The Brain as Receiver:

Just like a step-down transformer is used to reduce the voltage from a high voltage source to one low enough to be usable in our homes, maybe the brain, in part works the same way.  While we exist in a much larger spiritual/energetic reality than we’re aware of, the brain filters out all but a very small percentage of our larger energetic state.

In my “near” Near Death Experience, I was a much greater thing than I am in this “here and now.”  This is commonly reported by NDE-ers.  In this mortal state we are a much diminished shadow of who/what we really are.  On that side of things you know that for a fact.  Putting what that is into words, however, is near impossible because it’s not something we experience here, therefore there’s no basis for comparison except to say “bigger” which is not really adequate.

Perhaps in some people or in all people under varying circumstances, this mechanism doesn’t work 100% effectively sometimes and the larger reality slips through.  The mask drops.  The veil lifts.  We get a glance of the greater reality which contains an inexhaustible multitude of other realities.  They’re there all the time, we just don’t perceive them.

There seems now to be a consensus that we exist in a reality that contains other dimensions.  The exact number has been up for debate and no mainstream physicist will say that these are anything but mathematical truths and not realms populated by other sentient beings.  But… what if?

“Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.”

― Albert Einstein

Why would this be so?  Why would this diminished perception be necessary or beneficial for the seventy or eighty years that we each exist in this reality?  It seems that there’s some kind of protocol in place during our time here that requires we proceed with one hand tied behind our backs.  Is it a proficiency test of some kind?  If it is, how are you doin’?
