Strange Substance

“It does not matter whether you have religion or are an agnostic and believe in nothing, you can only appreciate (without knowing or understanding) the mysteries of life.” ~ Jack Kornfield

Some things seem to defy explanation or even categorization.  I’ve put a few of my experiences under this heading because while I can guess, I really can’t fathom any comfortable meaning for them.

Orbs in particular seem to bridge almost all of the paranormal categories.  Are they ghosts?  Angels? Aliens? Fairy Folk?

I’m not talking about the kind that you catch on your camera which could be a result of particulate matter visible only to the camera or light artifacts.  I’m talking about the kind that you can plainly see with the naked eye and contain some kind of intelligence.

I’ve heard stories of this kind of orb actually chasing people.  The one I saw seemed to be coolly checking me out but I didn’t get a negative sense from it.  I was a short distance from multiple cemeteries at the time so naturally my mind went to “ghost,” but who knows…

Ectoplasm.  That’s another strange one.  I’ve seen those obviously staged pictures of Victorian mediums with lengths of silk hanging from their mouths.  Obviously, I’m not talking about that.  I’m talking about some kind of vaporous, gaseous substance that seems to hold together loosely.

The ectoplasm I saw in the theater could clearly be categorized as “ghost” but although it had vaguely human attributes, it wasn’t in a defined shape like the cat I saw at my Hospice patient’s house.  It was more of an undefined long mass suspended in the air as it “walked” down the aisle.

The ectoplasm on the lady’s head is in another category altogether.  Did she have a ghost wrapped around her head like a hat?  Was this ectoplasm coming out of her or was it going in?  That was definitely a WTF moment and one I had a witness to although she didn’t see anything at all!

The definition for plasma that I found online tells us that it is one of the four fundamental states of matter, the three others being solid, liquid and gas.  Here’s an excerpt from a definition provided by Northwestern University:

“Plasma is a cloud of protons, neutrons and electrons where all the electrons have come loose from their respective molecules and atoms, giving the plasma the ability to act as a whole rather than as a bunch of atoms. A plasma is more like a gas than any of the other states of matter because the atoms are not in constant contact with each other, but it behaves differently from a gas. It has what scientists call collective behavior. This means that the plasma can flow like a liquid or it can contain areas that are like clumps of atoms sticking together.”

So plasma itself is a known thing.  The orb that I saw in the tree surely could have contained this stuff.  But why the strong sense of consciousness?  Also, why on earth could I see the stuff on that lady’s head and not my friend who definitely had better eyes than me?
